A peon (often now referred to as an Office Attendant or Multi-Tasking Staff) provides essential support to ensure smooth daily operations in government or private offices.
Core Job Responsibilities
  • Office Upkeep & Maintenance: Maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of office premises, including dusting furniture, cleaning cabins, and tidying meeting rooms.
  • Document Handling: Delivering files and official papers between departments, distributing mail (dak), and assisting with scanning, photocopying, or filing.
  • Pantry & Refreshment Services: Preparing and serving tea, coffee, water, or snacks to staff and visitors.
  • Security & Access: Opening and closing office premises daily and performing "watch and ward" duties to ensure the security of building fixtures and property.
  • Errands & Outdoor Work: Running office-related errands such as visiting banks for deposits, delivering parcels to the post office, or making small purchases.
  • Meeting Support: Setting up meeting rooms, ensuring stationery is available, and refilling water bottles for officials.
  • Equipment Operation: Operating basic office machines like fax machines, printers, or paper shredders.
